Hi guys, glad to see the subie spirit is alive and strong! The years between 1998 and 2002 when I had my domestic-spec'd WRX wagon (officially imported by Lau Motors and only one of 4 models that had a sunroof) and close ratio gearbox. So the car was limited to 180 kph as per all domestic spec cars, the fun part for a close ratio 'box was that I would always hit 7,000rpm at 180 kph in 4th gear and that's pretty much maxed it. The fun part for me is the thrill of the acceleration and you know how useful a burst of power can be esp today if I still owned a powerhouse like that, getting out of the killer roundabout in Kiulap and its equally lethal but small sibling right across from Hyundai showroom would have been real handy.

Having said this, I think the most useful and a personal skill to learn is toe and heel technique. I don't know how many people actually know this or even heard of it. I won't go into any detail as you can easily Google for more information. Toe-Heel isn't easy to master and can take years and a lot of practice. I learnt it on my dad's manual wagon long before I ever knew that someday I would be driving a WRX. I was first exposed to 'racing' after meeting a racer from Macau in Australia. Among the stories he shared, the toe-heel technique intrigued me so I began my journey to be enlightened how this technique of downshifting benefits not on the race course but also day-to-day driving. I'm fairly sure some of you know this so I'll stop here and let others chime in.
